Jozi By Day
Our most popular package by far, explore the unique City of Gold by Air!
Departing from Grand Central Airport, New Road, Midrand, your helicopter will head south following the N1 highway below. Flying over Sandton CBD on your right, the richest mile in Africa, and over Alexander township on your left; Nelson Mandela’s first place of residence in Johannesburg.
We continue following Rivonia/Oxford Road below as a reference, seeing Rosebank, the forest of Saxonwold, Killarney, Joburg Zoo and the skyline of our beautiful city, Jozi. You will also notice the 100 year old + heritage houses on the ridge, most of these used to belong to the mine owners, also known as the “Randlords” of Johannesburg.
Did you know that Johannesburg is considered to have the largest urban forest in the world? A beautiful sight to behold from the sky. Interestingly Johannesburg also had electricity before London did.
Your journey will continue in a clockwise direction around the Joburg CBD, as you fly past Gold Reef City and the FNB Stadium. On flying over south of the city, numerous operational mine dumps left by the gold rush that began in 1886, will be visible. These dumps are being recycled and produce 0.3 g of gold for every ton of earth. If you look carefully you will see some of the old rusty mine head gears.
The flight continues over Soweto where you will view the iconic, brightly coloured Orlando cooling towers – now the landmark of Soweto. The flight will finally proceed to your pre-selected venue for a delicious meal at your leisure. After the meal you will return to Grand Central Airport.
