Pretoria was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius, a leader of the Voortrekkers, who named it after his father Andries Pretorius.
Pretoria, also known as Jacaranda City, is one of South Africa’s three capital cities.
The flight will depart from Grand Central Airport, New Road, Midrand.
Flying North over Rooihuise Kraal heading for the South African Airforce Memorial. The flight will proceed past the Voortrekker Monument, Freedom Park and UNISA. UNISA being the largest university on the African continent, with over 300 000 students. Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in 1942 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1988 from UNISA.
Flying North of Fort Klapperkop (one of 4 forts built by the Boer government before the outbreak of the second Anglo Boer War) and onto Loftus Versfeld Stadium, home ground to the Blue Bulls rugby team.
The flight will continue over the Union Buildings, forming the official seat of the South African government and house the offices of the President of South Africa. It’s also best remembered as the place where South Africa's first democratically-elected President, Nelson Mandela, was inaugurated in May 1994.
The final flight stretch will be over Church Square before leaving Pretoria and heading South past Zwartkops Raceway on return to Grand Central Airport.
